My passion for the Performing Arts began at the tender age of thirteen years old. While being raised in an old southern household in Miami, Fl, I found dance to be my outlet for everything. I began my Professional Training in Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Majorette, West African and Modern with the Young Contemporary Dance Theatre. My four years there equipped me to be ready to take on this dog-eat-dog world of the Industry. I was molded to have an unorthodox way of thinking, training, dancing and creating in which created a leeway into my unique style that I have now. I am the living proof of the rose that grew from the concrete. An artist that came with nothing, but always left with something greater, and that is the philosophy that I live by as an educator, director, creator and artist.
Profoundly, when describing my teaching style, I am a disciplinarian with flexibility. My versatile traits allow for there to be structure in the class with free will for students to safely share their thoughts and feelings when needed. As a teacher, I believe that every student should feel safe and comfortable when in my presence at all times. The tough love that was given to me by Professors and Instructors from the past has built me into the strong-minded yet well-respected individual that I am today. Those exact characteristics are what I yearn to embed in my students. I always vow to instill discipline and accountability into my students and those that I come into contact with.
My mission is to create a well-versed environment and curriculum that will be beneficial to all students needs and wants for the classes I may teach. With experience of teaching my own company IDANce Xperience LLC, I have formed an anatomical practice in my teaching style that enhances the mover’s ability to connect both the movement and initiation acknowledgement. When teaching classes and workshops, I tend to use real life metaphors and situations to allow students to have a clear understanding of what I am asking for as well as for them to understand the application of it to the world outside of the classroom and studio. I believe in respectfully pushing students beyond their boundaries in order for them to grow and blossom into the phenomenal artist that I see in them.
